What is Vegan Food as per FSSAI?
According to FSSAI Vegan Food Regulations, vegan food refers to food or food ingredients that are completely free from animal origin components at every stage of production and processing. This includes additives, flavourings, enzymes, carriers, and processing aids.
What 'Vegan' Means Legally:
- No milk or dairy ingredients
- No egg-derived ingredients
- No gelatin or animal enzymes

1. Manufacturing Controls & GMP Compliance
FSSAI requires Food Business Operators (FBOs) to ensure strict segregation between vegan and non-vegan production. If a shared production line is used, it must be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before vegan production begins.

2. FSSAI Vegan Logo Approval Process

3. Vegan Food Labelling Requirements
Every approved vegan product must display the specified FSSAI vegan logo. The logo features a green "V" inside a square with a leaf, clearly distinguishing it from the standard vegetarian green dot.
Labels must also comply with FSS (Labelling & Display) Regulations, 2020, including accurate allergen declarations and ingredient transparency.
